Dear Members, A few months ago, the question arose (from Len Simard, in fact) about whether anyone had ever suggested creating a history of our 76 year old Club. A great idea and, as a member for 47 years (and a history major in college), I promptly volunteered to take on the assignment in late summer. I did some investigating, and found a cache of old documents in the basement of Len’s home at the Club, visited the New Canaan Historical Society (four file folders full of stuff), and more – and got started on a draft. Then Tamara and I unexpectedly got an offer for our condo, which we had been trying to sell since the spring, and we will be moving permanently to Manchester, VT in mid-January. I met recently with the Board and told them where I was on the project and that I wanted to continue with it from afar. But in order to do that, I would need to have someone here to become my partner in the enterprise, that is, someone to whom I can go for fact-checking, research, and maybe even taking part in writing. I have no idea what kind of time we might be talking about, but there are no deadlines, and it’ll pretty much be a whatever-you-can-do kind of thing. Any volunteers? If you are interested in learning more, you can click here to see what I’ve written so far, and then we can talk.
