8/31/20: President’s Update

New Canaan Field Club

NCFC Update

Dear Members,

Congratulations to the ladies’ tennis teams on their very successful food drive which was held as part of their end-of-season Round Robin. They were able to donate two carloads of food to area food pantries.

As we look forward to Labor Day weekend, please remember to drive carefully through the Club. We have put up a stop sign by the walkway near the pool entrance. Please stop and then go slowly through that area.

The Tennis Pro Shop will be open for merchandise and stringing until 9/18, which is Tim’s last day for the season. After the Labor Day weekend we will not be staffing the Pro Shop desk full time for court time reservations, so it will be first come, first served.

Please thank Tim when you get a chance. He came into this program with knowledge of the Covid-19 protocols which were new to all of us, and managed his Pro Staff very skillfully through this Pandemic.

Then we had a week-long power outage and Tim and the entire staff including Tom, Joe, and Danny stepped up the next morning and had our courts up and running the next day.

Please also be aware that construction along Route 123 right in front of the club will be commencing soon after Labor Day. The state is redoing the drainage system under the roadway. So entering the club will only be available coming up Route 123 from the south. The road north of the entrance will be closed for a month, but hopefully it will be open by the start of the paddle season.

Tully Shelly, Jr., one of the Club’s founding members, died on July 23rd at age 100 in Vero Beach, FL. He was also a member of the Country Club of New Canaan, the New Canaan Senior Men’s Club, and the Good Old Boys (GOBS) tennis group. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1941, he served in World War II, and then worked for several Connecticut and New York companies until 2000. He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Margaret, five children, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Stay well!
