It’s time to dig into those Covid-cleaned closets and find your paddle racquets and cold weather gear. The paddle courts are ready for action.
For those of you who don’t know me already, my name is Tammy Penman and this is my 5th season as the ladies’ paddle chair. J.P. McConnell, paddle director, has worked very hard to put together a great paddle season within the current Covid guidelines. Assisting J.P. will be Ben Zuckerberg, Junior Paddle Director/Assistant Pro, and Gary Squires, returning from last season. Both should be familiar names from tennis this summer.
You should have received J.P.’s email on Wednesday with many details regarding the start of the 2020-21 season. We kick off the season with our opening day Round Robin on September 21 from 9:00-11:00. All levels are encouraged to attend and players will be placed on court according to level. (Click here to sign up.)
Following that, we have “get the rust off” boot camps, Tuesday, September 22 and Friday, September 25 from 9:00-12:00 (Click here). Also, if you are new to our program or to the game of paddle, you can take a FREE ½ hour lesson with one of the pros until October 15. Simply e-mail J.P. (firstname.lastname@example.org ) to schedule your lesson.
Some team details – the ladies’ paddle program has four teams that offer a variety of competition levels. We have one team in the Darien/New Canaan League (“Interclub”), and three teams in the Fairfield County Women’s Platform Tennis League (“Division”). Interclub matches are played on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 starting October 13. Division matches are played on Thursday mornings at 9:30 starting October 15. Our teams play in Divisions 5, 8 and 10 (with D5 being the most competitive).
A huge thank you to our returning captains:
Clinic practices start on September 28 and are held on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings from 9:00-10:30 or 10:30-12:00. If you haven’t already signed up for a clinic, or aren’t sure what level is right for you, please contact J.P. at email@example.com . There is a spot for everyone, including players that aren’t interested in league competition.
We also offer a weekly evening clinic on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 starting on October 7 for ladies who can’t make the morning practices (click here to sign up). Lastly, and new this year, there is a beginner’s clinic on Fridays from 10:30-12:00. These clinics can be signed up weekly and you do not have to commit to an entire season.
Due to Covid restrictions, we have currently canceled or have put on hold some of our socials and events. Hopefully, we will be able to add more socials throughout the season as restrictions allow. For now, the only scheduled social is the Mixed Paddle Social on Friday, October 16 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. Make sure to save the date as it’s a great night to get out and play with others in a casual setting (click here to sign up).
In order to make sure we are able to have a great season under challenging circumstances we must adhere to the guidelines set by J.P. and the club. Further guidance will be sent out shortly.
For any questions, please contact me, J.P., Ben or Gary. Also, you can find more details, including the calendar and how to reserve courts, under “Paddle” on the NCFC website.
Here’s to a safe and fun season!
