6/6/20: Aquatics Director’s Letter

Aquatics Update

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all as excited as I am to hear the great news from Governor Lamont regarding Phase 2 reopening being moved ahead to June 17!

That being said, the staff has been working hard prepare for this date, and the pool will be ready when we are allowed to open. I will be updating the membership with additional guidelines once we hear more safety details from the CDC and the COVID-19 guidelines from the State for Phase 2 reopening. This is perfect timing for everyone to enjoy Father’s Day weekend at the club.

The Professional Aquatics Staff will all be returning for the 2020 summer season. If you are new to the club, please take the time to review our Professional Staff page (click here). The staff has extensive coaching backgrounds and we are lucky to have them working at the New Canaan Field Club.

The Fairfield County Swim League will hold virtual swim and dive competitions for our youth to have some structure. We are also planning a water polo program with limited in-house skills and events.

Over the next week, I will be working on a schedule to maximize pool usage, along with following the important protocols. We need to understand who is interested in our aquatics programming this season, so please register your kids asap (click here).

In order to make this shortened summer special, we will also be offering a morning adult swim program run by our professional staff (M-F from 7:00 AM-8:00 AM). I would like to encourage our college students to participate in some fun fitness structure. There is no charge for this program, so please come and join in no matter how strong a swimmer you may be.

Around the pool, we are going to spread out our lounge chairs for social distancing. The lifeguards will help protect your health by requiring the 6 feet rule. Please respect and encourage your children to maintain distancing. This is not easy for any of us to adapt to this new norm.

For adults who want a calm pool this summer, we will be calling a few Adult Swim times during the day to give you all the opportunity to enjoy the pool (yes, this will mean the kids will have to get out during this time).

The hours will be slightly different this summer to allow you all the opportunity to get adequate time at the pool. We are looking at opening at 12:00 PM and closing at 9:00 PM during the week, and weekends will be 10:00 AM-9:00 PM.

I hope you are well and see you soon,

Joe Somma
Aquatics Director
