Tennis Director’s Letter

My family and I are excited to start a new decade with all of you at the New Canaan Field Club!

This is going to be an exciting time as together we build on the wonderful traditions and program that Len and his staff have worked so hard to develop over his tenure and refine for the families at NCFC! We are going to take those traditions and momentum and together make new ones and continue to make NCFC the most exciting and progressive program in Fairfield County!

My wife, Tracy, and I have been married for 30 years and have four adult children and one grandson. Our family ranges in age from 29 to 16 (Hans-29, Kelby-26, Molly-22, and Myles-16) along with our 7 year old grandson, Gunner. This upcoming season, Tracy, Myles, and Gunner will be at the club while everyone else are all in full-time jobs either in Florida or Michigan.

Professionally, I have been in the private country club industry for most of the past 30 years. Other than a time as a college coach at Edinboro University, I have worked in the private club industry. Most recently, I was the Director of Tennis at the Iron Horse Golf Club in Whitefish, MT for the past 10 years.

Many of you will have known me through my time at The John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, FL where I was the Director of Racquet Sports for 20 years from 1993-2013. During that time, I managed a facility with 18 courts, 2 squash courts, and 2 croquet lawns. My professional staff of 9 included tennis, squash, and croquet professionals.

Additionally, I also worked at The Milbrook Club in Greenwich as the assistant tennis professional and was the Director of Tennis at Innis Arden Golf Club before staying at John’s Island year-round.

My playing background includes division 1 tennis at the University of Louisville, where I was nationally ranked in doubles in the NCAA. During my professional career, I have been ranked in the top 10 nationally in the 35’s/45’s in doubles. Looking forward to getting that top 10 ranking in the 55’s!

For the summer of 2020, the Club program will resemble what the members have enjoyed for the past summers! As I mentioned to the committee during the interview process, it is important to get to know the club and its members before suggesting any changes. I know that Len has refined the program during his tenure and we want to build on that going forward!

I have been in close communication with the 2019 staff and their enthusiasm and enjoyment working at NCFC has been very apparent. Over the course of the next couple of weeks, I will be making offers to the current staff in hopes that they will join us for the 2020 season. Some have already indicated that they would like to come back, which is very encouraging. Once the staff is set, I will send out an email to the entire membership announcing the full staff.

In conclusion, I am excited to start 2020 off as your Director of Tennis and will work with my staff to continue to make NCFC a place where a lifetime of memories will be made for you and your family! I look forward to getting a chance to meet everyone and get to know your families over the season!

Look for more announcements coming soon on the staff and the 2020 schedule!

I will be at the club starting April 15th getting the pro shop ready and organized for the season. Please feel free to stop by and say hello!!

All the best from my family to yours as we start a new chapter at NCFC together!

Tim Brueggeman
Director of Tennis
